Playing Catch With a Great Fucking Album!

I The Mighty’s sophomore full-length effort, Connector, with Equal Vision Records is a welcomed addition to their repertoire of great sounds and is a step in a direction that I personally love.
Continuing off of their high-energy and intricately riff-filled debut Satori, Connector continues the trend with fast-paced string-burners such as “Lady of Death” and “Adrift” but also changing pace with tracks like “Slow Dancing Forever” and “Andrew’s Song” that bring to the album a somber tone that had me on the verge of tears at times (I’m a sensitive person!). We also have “Friends” featuring Max Bemis of Say Anything giving his soul and making use of his lovely suffering-ish vocals and I can’t forget about “Playing Catch With .22”, the band’s single that I had on repeat for weeks when it was released.
The changes that I’ve heard from I The Mighty’s music seems to come from the need to be more outreaching in their sound, but not in a way that seems forced. “(No) Faith in Fate” is a track that is very much alt-funk influenced and is a highly sought sound in the alternative scene that’s almost dominant in music today; but what I The Mighty does is explore this style instead of follow it’s formula. It’s quite refreshing to hear new sounds blend together and just work.
More than this though is the presence, still, of I The Mighty’s political rock that I have come to recognize as an identity for the group; featured in songs like “The Frame I: Betrayal in the Watchtower”, “Psychomania”, and “The Hound and the Fox”. The band writes metaphors for Corporate America and capitalism (sometimes even just straight up saying it, imagery of empires crumbling and crooks in business suits.
Connector contains plenty of thought provoking and smoothly weaved lyrics, music composition to both sooth your pains and tear you asunder as you contemplate. Connector is sure to be considered as one of I The Mighty’s best albums even as they continue to release more and more great content!
